The baby formula industry will face strengthened supervision, said an article in Beijing News Daily (excerpts below).
Stricter legislation, control and management will see about two thirds of domestic formula enterprises weeded out in three to five years.
Regardless of whatever legislation is passed and enforced, the preference of consumers for foreign brands will remain, at least for the short term.
Various factors will come into play. These include price and availability but one factor that must never be in any doubt is standards.
There can never be any compromise on food safety.
The industry is facing changing times.
