The Pacific provides the United States and China with a platform to develop a new relationship model, said an article in People's Daily (excerpts below).
The US Secretary of State John Kerry outlined a vision for a "Pacific Dream" recently to highlight the Obama administration's "pivot" to Asia.
The US and China can reach a consensus in their understanding of establishing a regional order in the Asia-Pacific region. To some extent, under certain conditions, the "Pacific Dream" does not conflict with the "China Dream" in general expectations.
Although China and the US have different cultures and values, the two countries have overcome their differences and developed the bilateral ties.
The Pacific Ocean has witnessed the evolution of Sino-US ties and will provide more opportunities for the future development of the two countries.
Both China and the US should make efforts to safeguard common interests in the Pacific region.
China can seek more practical cooperation with the US in regional governance and building up security coordination mechanisms.
China will not only focus on Sino-US ties, but also pay attention to integrate its neighboring countries' development into the process of its rise.
