The new Labor Contract Law will be enforced from July 1 after undergoing revision. The key change concerns "temporary employees" enjoying the same payment for the same job as "permanent employees". This is a welcome move, said an article in China Youth Daily (excerpts below).
Statistics show there is big income gap between employees doing the same job. "Permanent employees" at State-owned enterprises have "a iron rice bowl", a life-long labor contract and good social security. "Temporary employees" have no such security and can be fired at any time.
The differentiated contract system is the root cause.
The new law, allowing for a fairer distribution to workers who do the same job, must be enforced and the rights of workers must be protected.
