BEIJING- Olympic champion Wang Meng, who is serving a domestic suspension, has been ruled out of China's squad for upcoming ISU short-track speed skating World Cup series in Nagoya, Japan and Shanghai.
The Chinese national team announced on Friday a 12-member list for the World Cup and Wang is a notable absentee.
In August, Wang was expelled from the national team and banned from national and international competition for punching coach Wang Chunlu during a drunken row after she returned late to a training camp following a night out.
"Wang has learned her lessons from the incident and expressed her wish to return to the national team. But we think that it takes time to prove she is qualified, so we made the decision," said a statement from the country's winter sports administration center.
As Wang is also absent from the ongoing national speed skating championships, which serves as a qualifier for January's National Winter Games, the 26-year-old is almost for sure to miss the Winter Games.
