Bali to hold ASEAN Plus Three, ASEAN Plus One Summits

BALI, Indonesia - The 14th ASEAN Plus Three Summit and a series of ASEAN Plus One Summits will be convened here on Friday, according to a statement issued by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Thursday.

The "10+3" Summit will be chaired by Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and attended by the heads of state or government of the ASEAN member states as well as China, Japan and South Korea, to discuss on the deepening of political and security cooperation in accordance with the Cooperation Work Plan, the statement said.

The 14th ASEAN-China Summit as Commemorative Summit to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the ASEAN-China relations will be attended by Indonesian president, heads of state or government of ASEAN members and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, to take stock of ties and cooperation between ASEAN and China, to deliberate the future direction of the dialogue partnership, and to launch the ASEAN-China Center.

The summit is also expected to adopt the ASEAN-China Joint Leaders' Statement on the 14th ASEAN-China Summit as a Commemorative Summit.

The meeting will be followed by the ASEAN-Japan Summit with the participation of the Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda and the ASEAN-South Korea Summit with the presence of the South Korean President Lee Myung-bak, which will discuss issues of common concern and work to boost relations between ASEAN and the two countries.

The Secretary General of ASEAN Surin Pitsuwan will also be in attendance at fore-mentioned Summits.
