The police have launched an investigation following a stabbing spree in a village in Lushan county, Pingdingshan city, in Central China's Henan province, on Wednesday, which left eight people dead, including two children, chinanews.com reported.

Police detained a man surnamed Li, who is in his 40s, and is suspected of killing the eight people - from three neighboring families - following a row with the families.

A preliminary investigation found that he attacked them because he believed his house has bad feng shui, the traditional Chinese study of geomantic omens usually for buildings or cemeteries.

Further investigation is under way.
