Ministry releases report on social insurance in English

The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security on Tuesday released the English-language edition of a report on China's social insurance development in 2014.

The first annual report on the development of China's social insurance released to the public, it operations and management of major insurances in China — basic old-age insurance, basic medical insurance, work injury insurance, unemployment insurance and maternity insurance, the five insurance programs mandated by the government to cover all employees in China.

The purpose of releasing the report in English is to help the international society to get the authoritative information on China's social insurance development, and present the achievements that China has made in this area, according to the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.

Similar reports will be released to public every year to protect the information access and supervision rights of the public, according to a statement of the ministry. The Chinese-language version of the report was released earlier.

The number of Chinese covered by the government's basic medical insurance programs exceeded 1.3 billion by the end of last year, representing more than 95 percent of China's total population, according to the report.
