Meet on China-US clean energy challenge

CINCINNATI - More than 200 guests joined in the celebration of the 5th Anniversary of the Greater Cincinnati Chinese Chamber of Commerce (GCCCC) at the Duke Energy Convention Center in Downtown, Cincinnati, Ohio on Monday, November 8th.
The event was highlighted by a keynote speech given by Jim Rogers, president and CEO of Duke Energy. Rogers shared his thoughts on the challenges and cooperative opportunities that the US and China face in developing the energy necessary to fuel their growing economies while providing a clean environment to their people and the world.

Congratulatory remarks were offered by Lisa Patt-McDaniel, Director of Ohio Department of Development and Chai Yuhui, Vice Consul, Economic and Commerce Section, Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in New York. Mrs. Patt-McDaniel presented a Proclamation on behalf of Ohio Governor Strickland and Ms. Chai congratulated the GCCCC's accomplishments and emphasized the importance of China-US collaboration in Energy and Environment. Also, Doug Moormann, Vice President, Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber and Steve Stevens, President of Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce spoke about the partnership each Chamber has with GCCCC.
GCCCC President and co-founder Shau Zavon was honored with an Innovators Award offered by the Board of Directors for her leadership and vision over the last five years. Zavon took a moment to speak about the new focus of the GCCCC identifying several key initiatives to reposition itself as the connector for China and the Midwest, not just the Greater Cincinnati area.
It includes the launch of a new Committee to focus on the promotion of the Greater Cincinnati region in China as a premiere business destination. The goal is to provide more concrete support in attracting Chinese businesses to the area.
It also intends to expand GCCCC's reach beyond the region by expanding member services to recruit more high profile members (i.e., through the creation of a China Desk). The GCCCC has already made a move to accomplish this initiative by securing a full time director. For the last five years, a group of very dedicated volunteers ensured the success of the group.
