The marine mining equipment arm of China CNR Corporation Limited announced in Shanghai on Nov 1 that it has made technical breakthrough in manufacturing marine mining shipping equipment and will export its first batch of products to Indonesia.
The Shanghai-based marine equipment arm has been jointly established by China CNR, a Shanghai enterprise and a research institute under the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences.
The equipment developed by the CNR's arm may meet some 90 percent of technical demands. The first set of equipment will be completed and start production in December this year.
It is estimated that about 70 billion metric tons of metal nodules under the ocean can be developed.
A zinc mining enterprise from Indonesia and Hainan Development Holdings Co Ltd have reached agreements with the CNR's marine mining equipment arm to cooperate in mining projects in Indonesia and in Hainan province respectively.
