High ranking official linked to murder case

HOHHOT - A former police chief in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region has been detained on murder suspicion, the regional public security department confirmed Saturday night.

Zhao Liping, a retired former deputy chairman of the Inner Mongolia Regional Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), was suspected of being involved in a murder case that happened in Chifeng city on Friday, according to the regional public security bureau.
Zhao is the 100th high-ranking "tiger" being investigated since the anti-corruption campaign began in 2012.
No details of the murder case has been disclosed so far.
The 64-year-old former police detective acted as regional police chief from 2005 and 2010. He was elected as the deputy chairman of the CPPCC Inner Mongolia Regional Committee in 2012.
Zhao is the 100th high-ranking "tiger" being investigated since the anit-corruption campaign began in 2012.
Since the probe into Xu Gang, vice-govenor of Fujian province,began on Fiday, many people began speculating on who would recieve the dubious honor as the 100th official under investigation.
The investigation of high-ranking "tigers" has spread to 26 provinces and regions, with only five areas left untouched-Beijing, Shanghai, Jilin, the Tibet autonomous region and the Ningxia Hui autonomous region.
