Imported grain volumes handled on Suifenhe railway reached 11,008 metric tons in 2012, a new record for the city in southeastern Heilongjiang province, according to the local government.

The main categories of goods were soybeans and corn, most of which were grown in Russia by Chinese companies and transported back for sale at home. Experts predict that grain imports from Russia will continue to grow in 2013.

Suifenhe is a key inland trading port on the sea-and-rail transportation route between Russia, Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia.
