BEIJING - China tans and dyes more than 75 percent of the world's fur, according to a report from a Chinese chamber of commerce.

The report was made by the China Chamber of Commerce of Foodstuffs and Native Produce on Tuesday.

Once processed, the fur then moves on to key consumption countries, including Russia, Japan and the United States, the report said.

China is at the lower end of the entire chain end and can only obtain very small profits through processing, as the country lacks leading brands. Over 80 percent of orders are made through OEM (original equipment manufacturer) businesses.

The report advised the government to map out favorable policies for the sector on trade tax, subsidies and brands with intellectual property rights.
