Contractors diversify infrastructure businesses

Chinese international construction contractors are expanding their businesses from traditional construction to survey and design, as well as the investment and operation sectors, the China International Contractors Association said on May 8.
"The current international economic and infrastructure industry situation offers Chinese contractors an opportunity to transfer and upgrade their development," said CICA Director Diao Chunhe, adding that the investment and financing of international infrastructure projects is becoming diversified.
Diao made the remarks at a news conference in Beijing about on the 4th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum.
With the theme of seeking new opportunities of global cooperation on diversified investment and financing of international infrastructure, the forum will be June 6 and 7 in Macao.
More than 40 ministries in charge of the infrastructure construction field from more than 30 countries will attend the forum and discuss topics like international commercial cooperation mode and promotion of investment facilitation of international infrastructure projects.
"Chinese contractors' overseas construction business has been developing from the low end to the top level, and Chinese industrial players are gaining more comprehensive contracts and investing projects in the world," said Chen Runyun, commercial counselor at the department of outward investment and economic cooperation at the Ministry of Commerce.
"Chinese enterprises are exploring new business sectors in their familiar foreign market, giving full play to their advantages," Chen said.
Dai Jinaye, deputy director at Macao Economic Services, said that Macao is boosting the development of its convention and exhibition industry. The opening of the 4th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum will not only enrich the content of Macao's convention industry, but also promote the international influence of tourism and convention industries in the region.
