In its latest initiative to boost food safety in China, Walmart launched a mobile testing program in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, on Thursday.

Each mobile laboratory is equipped with professional facilities and four third-party technicians. The program will serve Walmart's 70-plus stores in Guangdong province and is due to be extended to other regions, the company said.

This year, the US-based retailer also intends to establish one more fresh-food distribution center with testing services in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province, bringing the number of testing centers in China to seven.

"We hope to provide safe goods and good services to our customers through continuous food safety management," said Greg Foran, president and CEO of Walmart China.

Walmart plans to invest 100 million yuan ($16.3 million) in food safety management in its stores across China over the next three years.
