Mobile Internet revenue reached 20.4 billion yuan ($3.31 billion) in the first quarter of 2013, registering a dramatic 74.5 percent year-on-year increase and 10.4 percent growth quarter-on-quarter, according to iResearch Consulting.
However, the quarter-on-quarter growth rate actually declined to a record low. From the first quarter of 2012 to the first quarter of 2013 the rate showed a marked fall over the 15 months; 17.2 percent, 21.2 percent, 18.5 percent, 10.6 percent and 10.4 percent.
iResearch said three factors were largely responsible; Internet companies do not have a sophisticated profit-making model, investors are becoming increasingly cautious in investing and seasonal adjustments played a part.
iResearch said companies need to pay more attention to exploring profitable business models and adjusting the industry structure.
