International eye care company Alcon said it will speed up introduction of new products to China.
Nelson Hsu, president of Alcon China and Mongolia, said that the company, based in Switzerland, is devoted to development and eye care in China, a growing market.
Alcon has just introduced a cataract surgery device to China.
Surgeons will be able to perform some of the more challenging steps of cataract surgery using a blade-free laser instead of manually performing these steps with an instrument.
Cataracts are the leading cause of preventable blindness. In China more than 2.9 million people are affected with this eye disease and most live in rural areas.
