The revenue generated through movie ticket group buying websites nationwide exceeded 300 million yuan ($48.9 million) in April, contributing 17 percent of the country's total ticket sales that month, according to data from a Beijing-based entertainment industry consultancy.
The contribution of ticket sales from Wanda Cinema Line's website to the company's box office revenue in a single day surpassed 20 percent last year.
Wanda Cinema Line is China's largest theater chain.
Both signs show that online ticket purchase channels are bringing a bonanza to the world's second-largest film market, the consultancy said.
The survey also found that ticket group buying websites are showing a tendency to cover areas across the nation, and that the cities and theaters the websites cover have reached a significant amount.
