OSAKA -- An investment promotion seminar on sustainable business in the Pearl River Delta economic zone, one of China's leading economic regions, was held on Wednesday afternoon in the western Japanese city of Osaka, attracting more than 100 company representatives and specialists in clean technology from the city and its surrounding region of Kansai.

The seminar, titled "Hong Kong China Environment Business Seminar in Osaka", was organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council jointly with the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

According to the organizers, the Osaka event was aiming to provide attendees with the latest information about business and environmental issues in the PRD economic zone and, at the same time, to make the best use of Hong Kong as the most effective gateway to the Chinese mainland, in particular, nine major cities located in the PRD area including Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Foshan.

Presiding over the business event, Daniel M. Cheng, president of the Hong Kong Environmental Industry Association, said the Chinese government has taken a series of measures to reduce waste while building water management plan over the past few years, stating that the latest development plan promises more investment in the protection of the environment.

"For those of us who are in the green business, if you are, for example, in the latest electric car business, energy storage, solar and wind power, there will be opportunities contributing to the prosperity on both sides," he said.

During the seminar, attendees were also shown some of the latest successful environmental technology schemes operated in the PRD area, such as oil recycling and composting toilet systems, so that more Japanese companies can easily concrete ideas to effectively perform their management functions in the leading economic zone and Hong Kong.
