The edible oils maker Sinograin Oils Corporation has launced a new product aimed at those with cardiovascular diseases.
Its new 3D canola blend oil has been developed in conjuction with Peking Union Medical College Hospital. The joint project is said to be the first of its kind in China between an oil company and a medical institution, and Sinograin says it hopes such cooperation will bring new insights into nutritional health.
High blood pressure, blood fat and blood sugar are common symptoms in those with cardiovascular disease. There were 236 million such people at the end of last year, and each year 3.5 million people die of the disease.
There were 92 million diabetes patients by the end of last year, and 3,000 new patients are added to the list every day.
Chen Wei, a doctor at Peking Union Medical College Hospital, said inappropriate diet is an important cause of cardiovascular diseases, and choosing the right oil is a good start to tackling the problem.
The Chinese Nutrition Society says the new canola oil is low in saturated fat, trans fat and erucic acid – a good choice for the combat against blood fat and cholesterol levels.
The new oil product is composed of 50 percent canola seed oil, 33.3 percent corn oil and 16.7 percent olive oil.
Peking Union Medical College Hospital will assess data collected from users of different types of edible oil to determine to what extent the structure of oil fat affects human health. The aim is to promote health awareness and accelerate the introduction of national standards on edible oil.
