While mooncake producers in Guangdong province are experiencing a declining market this year, they have generated 15 percent growth overseas.
Twenty-eight mooncake exporters in Guangdong have shipped 970 batches, an annual rise of 30 percent. This accounted for 1,484 tons of mooncakes, a 15 percent year-on-year rise, reported Nanfang Daily, citing Guangdong Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau.
The growth is attributable to the marketing efforts of companies as well as expanding demand overseas.
Mooncakes are traditional snacks for the Mid-Autumn festival which falls on Sept 19 this year.
Guangdong mooncakes account for nearly 80 percent of national mooncake exports this year.
