China's richest
With a wealth of $14 billion, Wang Jianlin, chairman of Dalian Wanda Group, has become the richest person in China, according to Forbes. Last year's richest man was Zong Qinghou, chairman of Hangzhou Wahaha Group with a wealth of $11 billion.
Yang Mi
Famous Chinese actress Yang Mi has denied she was once slept with disgraced former railway minister Liu Zhijun. Yang's lawyer published a statement on Monday calling the allegation just a rumor. Liu received a suspended death sentence in July for taking bribes and steering contracts to associates.
Hukou market
Black market Beijing hukou, household registration permits, are being sold for 200,000 ($32,700) to 800,000 yuan with a promise to "manage" clients within one year,China National Radio reported. Authorities claim hukou is under strict examination.
High living
Property tycoon Ren Zhiqiang said people can afford houses priced more than 2 million yuan. "For example, in Beijing, house prices of 180,000-40,000 yuan per square have become mainstream."
Survey bribe
Residents in Shaoyang, Hunan province are being paid to praise the city when they get a survey call from the provincial government, the Beijing News reported.
"When people in Shaoyang say nice things about the city, the city can really be good," says the text message that was sent to each resident with the promise of a 300 yuan subsidy.
