High score: Xbox One to hit China

Microsoft's Xbox One was released in the US last November and will be released in Japan on Sept 4. There is no specific Chinese release date or price point.

Zhang, like many other gamers, are excited to see the launch of the Xbox, though they are a bit worried about what ends up making it over the pacific.

There is no word yet on what games will launch with the system, or which extra features will be exclusive for the Chinese market. Earlier this month, the Ministry of Culture, in conjunction with the Shanghai Free Trade Zone, detailed the requirements that games and gaming hardware needed to meet before they could access the domestic market.

The Xbox One is not the first video game console legally available. Nintendo has been releasing variations of their older hardware through a Chinese joint venture called iQue.

Chinese companies such as the Lenovo-backed Eedoo released the CT-510 in 2012. Chinese telecoms such as Huawei and ZTE have joined the mix with Android based entertainment boxes.
