The provincial meteorological station issued an alert for icy roads on Friday morning.

The provincial traffic department said all major expressways in the province are covered with ice.

The Changbei International Airport said snow and ice are still being cleared from the airport's runway.

The provincial meteorological station said the cold weather, which has driven temps down by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius, will likely last until Sunday.

Public heating is not provided in Jiangxi, as its winter is usually mild and short. This year's cold snap has reminded locals of a period of severe weather encountered in 2008 that wreaked havoc and resulted in heavy economic losses.
