A motorist in Southwest China is demanding an apology from authorities after he was hit with years worth of traffic fines in one day.

The man, identified only as Liu, bought his car in November 2011. On Sunday he received a call on his cellphone informing him he had 131 unpaid tickets, Huaxi Metro Daily reported.

The violations are set to cost him at least 13,100 yuan ($2,100) in fines and 393 penalty points on his driving license. Motorists automatically lose their license after receiving 12 points within a year.

However, Liu has accused the traffic department in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province, of failing to fulfill its responsibility to inform drivers of violations in a timely manner.

Local authorities said they had no contact number for Liu on record, which resulted in them being unable to notify him. The local authority said motorists are obligated to check their tickets regularly online.
