HANGZHOU - Two people were killed and eight others injured in a pileup in East China's Zhejiang province early on Tuesday morning, partly due to heavy fog that has shrouded parts of China for days.
The accident occurred on an expressway that links Hangzhou, provincial capital of Zhejiang, and Pudong district of Shanghai, sources with firefighters in Jiaxing city said.
A total of 20 vehicles were caught in the accident, sources said.
The injured have been sent to nearby hospitals, and none of them are in life-threatening conditions.
Heavy fog has shrouded much of central and eastern China over the past few days, stranding aircraft and affecting road traffic.
Visibility at the site of the crash was lowered significantly by the fog when the accident occurred, according to the firefighters.
