More than 90 officials in Chongqing have been removed from their posts for dereliction of duty in the past five years, China News Service reported.

The number of violations involving abuse of power rose more than 30 percent compared with 2008.

Courts dealt with a total of 4,084 people, including more than 900 high-level officials, according to a work report by the city prosecutors.

In 2012, the authority handled 878 people accused of dereliction of duty, among which 461 were accused of taking brides worth at least 100,000 yuan ($16,000), prosecutor Yu Min told China News Service.

Yu said city prosecutors pay a lot of attention to reports from residents and will combine crackdowns with education, the report added.
