The electronic toll collection system in Beijing is expected to be connected to those in Shandong and Shanxi provinces this year, allowing drivers to pay expressway tolls in those areas without stopping, the Beijing News reported on Wednesday.
In 2010, Beijing linked its ETC system with those in Hebei province and Tianjin municipality, the two regions bordering the capital, the Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport said.
So far, more than 200 lanes of expressways in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei, have installed the system and seen an accumulated throughput of 16.12 million vehicles, the commission said.
