7 dead in S China pile-up

GUANGZHOU - Seven people were killed and five others were injured in a pile-up that occurred on an expressway in South China's Guangdong province Monday night, local authorities said Tuesday.
The pile-up, which involved a truck and six cars, occurred at 11:18 pm on a section of the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway in the city of Conghua, according to the provincial emergency office.
Following an investigation, the driver of the truck, a person surnamed Wei, was detained by local police.
A further investigation is under way.
