A kindergarten director who was seriously wounded when trying to protect children from a man's potentially fatal attack was honored as a "Model for Teachers" in Jinhua, East China's Zhejiang province, on Feb 20.
Yu Yangchun, 40, was stabbed in the chest and shoulder by a man who broke into the kindergarten on Jan 23.
When the man walked into Yu's classroom with a knife, Yu, who weights less than 45 kilograms, risked her life and held him tight when other teachers hurriedly evacuated the children from the back door.
There were more than 260 children in the kindergarten at the time.
Local police later found that the man, surnamed Hou, had financial disputes with the father of a child in Yu's class and intended to take revenge.
Yu was also awarded "Good Samaritan" by the local public security bureau.
