The Ministry of Education will soon release a notice to forbid primary and middle schools from selecting students based on math Olympiad results.
The influence of the math competition has been highlighted by the issue of access to good primary and middle schools in some regions, which increased pressure on students and parents, Liu Limin, vice-minister of education, said at a meeting on Thursday.
The ministry will expose schools that break the regulation on its website and in the media.
During the meeting, school heads and education experts suggested that people should be encouraged to report cases in which the regulation is broken.
