The new Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway has carried 90 million passengers in its first year and a half of operation, according to a news release on the website of the railway ministry on Monday.
An inspection of the service has just been carried out by a joint team organized by The National Development and Reform Commission, and the railway has been assessed as running smoothly and safely with tests showing excellent performance since it was put into operation in June 2011.
The high-speed route covers a total length of 1,318 kilometers, operating at a top speed of 300 km per hour. There can be as many as 100 trains using the route per day.
