A Beijing hukou, or registered permanent residence, can be obtained through investing in the capital, according to its investment authority.
The city issued hukou to 14 entrepreneurs and 31 of their family members last year, said Zhou Weimin, director of the Beijing Investment Promotion Bureau.
He said the issuance of hukou has encouraged entrepreneurs from outside the city to invest and develop in Beijing.
Zhou said only the human resources and social security bureau and the investment promotion bureau can issue hukou in the city.
He said the investment bureau became entitled to grant hukou last year, and this had since become a significant way to attract investment projects.
The investment bureau said Beijing will attract 1,100 projects this year. Special emphasis will be placed on energy-saving and environmentally friendly investments, to improve the capital's air quality.
