A 28-year-old firefighter lost his life in a rescue in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, on March 20.
Quan Zhanrong, born in 1985, was the father of a five-month-old baby. He was sent with about 100 firefighters to a special material factory that had caught fire around 11 am. The fire was extinguished at 1:30 pm.
However, Quan fell into a tank filled with hot olefin when he was cleaning up the site. After being rescued from the two-meter-deep tank, he was sent to a nearby hospital and declared dead at 3:30 pm.
According to the local fire station, the fire was caused by a welder who ignited the olefin.
