A member of the committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference in Dianbai county, Guangdong province, was attacked by masked men with shotguns on Wednesday and is in hospital with about 400 bullet fragments in his knees.
The man's brother also suffered serious injuries in the attack in a restaurant in Maoming city, with four tendons of his left hand chopped and his right knee broken.
Huang Jianhui, a doctor at Maoming People's Hospital, told Nanfang Daily that it's very difficult to remove the bullet fragments in Shao Zhencai.
Shao, a businessman, believes that the attack might be a form of revenge from bidding rivals or a man who had a dispute with him last year, according to Nanfang Daily.
The attack is the fourth shooting in the county in the past week. According to New Express Daily, surveillance video of roads nearby show that the assailants had been trailing Shao and his brother for at least 5 kilometers, and were carrying shotguns on their shoulders while riding motorcycles.
Dianbai police is investigating the case.
