Stores in the style of the Ming and Qing dynasties will be built along the streets near the Line 8 subway station Shichahai to symbolize the prosperity of ancient Beijing.
The Xicheng district government declared plans to protect the old urban area and invited more than 30 residents and businessmen for a discussion.
According to the plan, two-floor stores in the style of the Ming and Qing dynasties will be built and the second floor will be hutongs connected by corridors.
Restaurants offering traditional Chinese cuisine and snacks, like the Beipingju Restaurant, will also be there.
