A man, accused in a hit-and-run case in Weifang, Shandong province, found the victim was his father.
The man, named Li, was driving a minivan at about 2 am on June 30, hit a man in his 50s and fled the scene, dzwww.com, a local online news portal, reported on Wednesday.
The old man, who was riding an electric scooter when the accident occurred, was hospitalized. But he was so badly injured that he couldn’t tell the police what happened.
Based on the fragments of bumper at the scene, police suspected that the vehicle was a minivan, which they later found being repaired in a garage.
The police found the injured man was Li's father when they questioned Li.
Li, who was arrested on a hit-and-run charge over the traffic accident, was released by police so that he could take care of his father.
Police said Li will be charged in the case.
