The super-tall Shanghai Tower will be outfitted with the world's fastest elevators, which will move at 18 meters per second, Eastday.com reported on Friday.
Three of the elevators will be installed and will be able to move passengers from the ground floor to the top floor in only one minute.
Construction of the 632-meter skyscraper in Pudong district is slated for completion in 2015.
Shanghai Tower will house 21 hanging gardens, 207,000 sq m of office space, 80,000 sq m of hotel space, 3,600 sq m of conference and banquet space and 60,000 sq m of commercial space.
Compared to two of the city's landmarks, constructing the Shanghai tower is like building a vertical city twice the size of Jinmao Tower or one and a half times the size of the World Finance Center, said Gu Jianping, general manager of the building.
