A 3-year-old, who was sleeping outside a shack on the side of a road in a Shanghai suburb, was run over by a truck and killed on Tuesday.
The boy was run over by the truck when it made a U-turn, and he died at about 5 am on Tuesday.
His father, surnamed Wu, chased the driver on foot for about 2 kilometers after the driver abandoned the truck and fled, said local newspaper Shanghai Morning Post.
According to Wu, the boy was the elder of his twin sons. The family, originally from Anhui province, came to Shanghai four years ago and rented a plot of land to plant vegetables in the Minhang district.
Wu said the family has been sleeping outdoors at night during the summer due to the heat.
