Two people in Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi province, have been sentenced in connection with a fatal traffic accident, China Daily learned on Tuesday.
A woman surnamed Zhao was driving without a license on Oct 21 when she struck and killed a 10-year-old boy at a downtown street in Xi'an. Zhao's friend, surnamed Zhang, told police he was driving when the accident occurred. Police later determined that Zhao was the driver.
Zhao was convicted of driving without a license, and Zhang was punished for lying to the police. The two paid 530,000 yuan ($86,327) to the boy's family in compensation. Taking that into consideration, the court of the city's Xincheng district sentenced Zhao to 18 months in prison. Zhang received a sentence of 12 months.
