Details about the giant rubber duck's arrival is still to be confirmed, the Beijing Design Week organizing committee said on Aug 8.

It was widely speculated that the rubber duck would make its debut on the Chinese mainland at the Summer Palace on Sept 16, and then be shown at the ninth International Garden Expo. But the committee said the time of the debut has not yet been confirmed.

The big rubber duck is a floating sculpture designed by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman. Its aim is to have people recall their childhood memories. The duck has been on display in 14 cities so far, including Amsterdam, Osaka, Sydney, Sao Paulo and Hong Kong. The previous showcase in Hong Kong caused widespread sensation in the city and China's microblogging sites.

The duck will be on display in Beijing as part of the Beijing Design Week, which will run from Sept 26 to Oct 3. Beijing Design Week is an annual event that celebrates the value of technology design through a series of forums, exhibitions and trade fairs. The guest city of the 2013 Beijing Design Week is Amsterdam.
