Zoo chiefs in one city have proved to be cheeky monkeys by swapping rare animals for everyday pets. From sweltering buses that proved too hot for one official to record-breaking temperatures in Wuhan, who would know Xinjiang is blanketed with snow? It's all trending across China.
Xinjiang whiteout
A cold front has covered most parts of Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region with sleet and snow since August 13. Along the 217 National Highway, passengers stop off to appreciate the rare scenery for this time of the year.
Beating heat
The highest temperature in Wuhan city, capital of Central China's Hubei province has exceeded over 39 C for the fourth day straight, setting a new record since they began 106 years ago. The weather will become cooler in the next few days due to Tropical Storm Utor.
Scandal abbot
The Henan Shaolin Temple has denied rumors that Shi Yongxin, abbot of the famous Buddhist temple, is embroiled in a sex scandal. A newspaper in Spain claimed the 48-year-old high-profile abbot has a mistress who is a college student in Beijing, a son in Germany and an overseas bank account containing $3 billion.
Fake zoo
A local zoo in Luohe city, Henan province has been fooling tourists by putting a Tibetan mastiff into an African lion cage. It also tried to disguise dogs as wolves and sea cucumbers as snakes until visitors posted pictures online and exposed the faux animals
China's oldest
A woman has become China's oldest person at the grand age of 127. Alimihan Seyiti from Kashgar county was reportedly born on June 25, 1886. The previous record holder, Luo Meizhen in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region died in June aged 128.
Emotional Hsu Chi
In what is being viewed as a sign to her emotion progress or she has totally lost the plot, Hong Kong actress Hsu Chi wrote on Sina Weibo on Wednesday night: "No need to refill the tea when it gets cold as it will never ever taste the same," The message was forwarded over 30,000 times within 10 hours.
Bus stop
A transportation bureau head in Suzhou, Jiangsu province has pledged to stop using 725 buses that do not have air conditioning after his unpleasant experience of sitting on one of them proved to be a sweltering task. A bus driver claimed the temperature inside could reach 45 C.
