An aunt of Guo Bin, 6, who lost his eyes in a vicious attack in Shanxi province, committed suicide on Friday morning.
She died after jumping into a deep well.
Police did not confirm that her death was related to Guo's injury, Beijing News reported.
Earlier media reports said the boy's friend, who was playing with him before the attack, said a woman with blond hair took the boy away.
This was confirmed by a closed circuit TV recording, but other physical features of the woman were too vague to recognize.
Donations have been flooding into help cover the costs of the boy's medical treatment.
