BEIJING - Top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng told a visiting Taiwan delegation on Thursday that the Chinese mainland and Taiwan should maintain momentum in building political mutual trust.

Yu, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, made the remarks at a meeting with a Taiwan delegation led by Lin Join-sane, chairman of the Taiwan-based Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF).

The two sides of the Taiwan Straits should follow the right direction in developing cross-Straits relations and jointly promote the idea that the two sides of the Strait are family, Yu said.

They should implement the agreements reached at the last round of cross-Straits talks, complete follow-up talks to the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement and begin to negotiate agreements about cultural and education cooperation as early as possible, he said.

The mainland will continue current cross-Straits policies and work to deepen the peaceful relations across the Strait, he added.

Yu also said that he appreciated the efforts made by the SEF and its mainland counterpart, the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits, to push forward cross-Straits talks and promote exchanges.
