The Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery, the main resting place for the highest-ranking revolutionary heroes and high government officials in China, will increase its capacity by 10,020, according to a draft plan posted on the website of the Beijing Commission of Urban Planning.
The cemetery will build a cinerarium corridor 620 meters long and will be 630.4 square meters.
The draft was put on the authority's website on Sept 10 and is seeking public comment for up to 30 days.
Dong Libo, the cemetery's deputy director, told China Daily in an earlier interview that the cemetery faces pressing space problems as the number of burials and cremations in the cemetery has exceeded 30,000 so far, close to its maximum capacity of 32,000 to 33,000.
