BEIJING - China will conduct a general survey and assessment of its wind power, solar energy and other meteorological resources, according to a report submitted to the top legislature on Monday.
The report on the implementation of meteorological law, which was submitted to the bi-monthly session of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) for deliberation, suggested that the government establish a database of meteorological resources and make plans to explore, utilize and preserve those resources.
Ji Bingxuan, vice-chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, delivered the report, saying that China has rich and various meteorological resources with huge development potential.
Ji suggested that regulations be introduced to explore and preserve meteorological resources in a proper and efficient way.
The report also called for improving meteorological department capabilities in disaster prevention and relief and establishing a system for public meteorological services focused on border areas, areas with complex geological environments, and the country's vast western regions.
Providing agriculture services is a key mission of meteorological work, the report said.
