A primary school in Jintang county, Sichuan province, stopped extra lessons to its sixth-grade pupils but parents asked that they be resumed, Chengdu Commercial Daily reported on Monday.

The parents said their children face enrollment exams for junior high school next year and they hoped extra lessons after school would help the students get better scores. The school arranged extra lessons for the children, and the parents voluntarily paid 400 yuan ($70) per child.

However, the parents were given their money back and told the extra lessons had been stopped by the school. The parents were worried and asked the school to resume the extra lessons.

The county education bureau responded that extra lessons are banned under related stipulation from the province education administration.
