Urban residents have insufficient leisure time even on weekends, according to the findings of survey released on Monday.

Daily leisure time for urban residents during the work week was only 3.6 hours per person while the number for weekend days was 5.3 hours, said the Annual Report of China Leisure Development published by the China Tourism Academy.

The result was based on a poll of 3,577 respondents in 10 major cities in China.

About 31 percent of urban employees polled by the survey indicated that they spent more than eight hours a day at work.

One fourth of respondents chose to travel during their holidays, the report said.

In 2013, the total annual leisure time for male urban residents reached 1,590 hours per person and the number for females was 1,493 hours, the report estimated.

It said that China's leisure industry was growing. In 2012, 297 listed companies in the leisure industry reported a total revenue of 1.2 trillion yuan ($196 billion) and the total assets of those companies reached 1.99 trillion yuan.
