Chongqing is going to offer 72-hour visa-free stays to visitors from 45 countries in November, the fifth mainland city to adopt the policy.
"The policy will increase cooperation between Chongqing and foreign countries, boosting tourism and commercial exchanges," said Ai Yang, deputy secretary-general of the Chongqing government.
Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu have already adopted the policy.
Travelers should have third country visas and continuing air tickets with confirmed dates and seats for the third country or region within 72 hours.
More than 1 million passengers entered and left Chongqing Jiangbei Airport from January to September. The number is estimated to hit 1.3 million in 2013.
The city's airport services 21 international airlines.
Pei Mingxue, the deputy manager of the airport, said the airport will launch services for transit passengers to enjoy the city.
