A 57-year-old man in Muleng, Heilongjiang province, asked his online girlfriend out for a date only to find out that she was his own daughter-in-law.
The woman's husband had followed his wife to the scene, and after a brawl, all three ended up in the police station.
The Heilongjiang Morning Post reported on Oct 24 that the man, who was identified only as Wang, retired two years ago and was addicted to chatting with Internet friends online. He pretended to be a widower, met a young woman who said her husband was in prison, and they decided to meet at a local hotel on the night of Oct 22, the report said.
In fact, the woman, who was identified as Lili, has been married for eight years, and her husband, who is a long-distance truck driver, is often away from home.
When Wang and Lili met at a hotel room, they were shocked to discover each other's true identity.
Meanwhile, the woman's husband had returned home early and found out about Lili's plan to date her cyberfriend after seeing her chat records on her computer. He then followed her and caught the duo together.
The three ended up in a fight, and a hotel employee called police.
Police criticized Wang and Lili, and put the young man under detention for five days for beating his father.
