A teenager reportedly committed suicide after his school repeatedly told him to cut his hair, Qianjiang Evening News reported on Monday.
The farmer's son, 14, from Tonglu county, Zhejiang province, was in the first grade at junior high school. He apparently jumped into the Fuchun River on Nov 28.
According to the report, a teacher asked the boy to cut his long hair on Wednesday after he had already cut his hair a few days before, as requested.
When he went to school the next day, he was teased by his classmates as he hadn't cut much off.
He told his teacher long hair would hide his pimples.
As the boy was having dinner with his parents, the teacher called them and asked them to ensure that he had shorter hair, as the school required.
The boy went to the barbers again, in a state of distress.
After going to the barbers, the boy took a motorbike and left home, the report said. While chasing after him, his mother received a text message which read "Mom, I will be your son in the next life."
Witnesses said the boy stopped his motorbike and left his cell phone on a bridge over the Fuchun River and jumped in before his parents arrived, the report said.
